62Who are we?
Why must we make life so complicated? Constantly asking, "Should I be doing this? What will people think of me?" Does the opinion of another person really matter?
Is there ever another human being that knows what is good for us as individuals? Not only in our public life, but in our private life as well, we look to our peers for acceptance. Do years subdue this need for acceptance or simply allow us to deal with it more easily?
Are we, as parents, forcing this same dependency on our children, so they in turn will grow in a world of insecurities? Where does one draw the line between delinquency and standing up for what one believes in? For choosing a lifestyle that is not considered normal by society we tend to torment ourselves with feelings of guilt.
There are, unfortunately, too few people in this world strong enough to pursue what some consider to be euphoric dreams. But then euphoria is different for each of us.

Thanks for your kind words. I actually wrote this when my daughter was in her teens to reinforce my belief that one should always follow our dreams. My daughter is now 36, has been a professional jazz and blues singer for many years and is embarking on a new adventure in hairstyling. I'm glad I believed.

I think it is difficult to totally totally detach ourselves from the judgment of others - but I do think it gets easier as one gets older and maybe more financially independent.
Also, it is the weirdest thing that sometimes the opinion of strangers matter more to us than the opinion of those we love. I think that it is not possible to please everyone, so it is best to try and please the ones we love most. :)

Thanks for stopping in. Perhaps not totally, but did you hear of the woman who when she reached a certain age decided to just wear purple and red and do whatever the hell she wanted? Well I'm that woman... just joking, but I plan on being her one day. Yes, I agree it gets easier with age and that for a lot of people a strangers opinion does matter more... sad. As you say, try and please the ones we love most.

Thanks for the thought-provoking hub! It is very important to follow our dreams, and so often others will tell us they are not attainable. But, each of us have dreams and ambitions that others cannot understand. We all have unique talents and abilities. Each of us responds to the world in our own unique way that another will never truly understand, not having been in our shoes. The best we can do for our loved ones is to support them in their dreams. :D

Governments' intent are to control at all cost to include the impairment of the welfare and benefit of the human condition; and itis apparent when self-rule is not the order of the day... Any other means of governance is a form of master-control of trained zombies...

well most of us are approval seekers and we all want to impress others. What i found out is those who have god in their lives really are the only people who do not seek other people's opinion. Why? Because they serve only god. It's tough to impress so many people but we can easily impress god who loves us unconditionally. So, i have a beautiful relationship with my god, i do as he tells me to do and yes miracles do happen in my life, with the grace of god. :-)
I'm very glad for you, Cleanclover, that you have found happiness in your life. I don't believe it necessary to have God in your life however, to be strong and confident. Someone who loves another unconditionally and encourages them to follow their heart, thier dreams and is there in times of need can also help make you strong. Take care my friend and I hope you continue to experience miracles.

Emotions are not the "deciders" at my house. (And it is an admittedly older house, lol.)
I've become an accomplished listener...to my conscience. It's taken some time to acquire the gift..but my hearing seems to be improving with age.
Faith matters to me. Faith in people, faith in God. They're not the same. They operate in different ways.I put my faith in people, then I wait.
I put my faith in God..then He waits, lol.
